What Is CSA?

CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) brings together community members, farmers and agricultural land in a relationship of mutual support based on an annual commitment to one another--a commitment that ensures the survival of local farms today and for future generations. In CSA, community members pay the farmer an annual membership fee to cover farm production costs. In return, those members receive a weekly share of the harvest during the local growing season. This arrangement guarantees the farmer financial support and enables many small scale organic family farms to remain in business, while ensuring shareholders local, organically raised produce over the whole season. Ultimately, CSA creates agriculture-supported communities where members receive a wide variety of foods harvested at the peak of ripeness, flavor, and vitamin and mineral content.

What are my responsibilities?

*Pick up your share on the day and time specified.

*Pay for share (full payments for 2010 season accepted November 7th 2009 until the first market in May).

*We strongly encourage all shareholders to attend one or both of our annual "meet our farm" days hosted on our farm--this will give you a chance to meet the whole family, and see how your vegetables are actually grown!

Are you're vegetables grown organically?

Yes, all of our vegetables are grown by the National Organic Plan's requirements and are Certified Naturally Grown (www.naturallygrown.org). We never use any synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. We never use seeds that have been Genetically Engineered, or that are of Genetically Modified Origin. All of our vegetables are safe to eat!

What can I expect in my share?

What you receive in your basket will vary through the season. A Large share will receive a 1/2 bushel box of freshly harvested, Certified Naturally Grown produce each week. While our goal is to fill your basket with produce at or above the weekly value of your basket, the volume of the box will vary--at the peak of the season, you will receive more produce than you likely will right at the beginning. One of the benefits of participating in a CSA is learning the "old time" practice of "eating with the seasons". For a projected sheet of what we plan on having (and when), see our 2010 Projected Crop & Harvest Schedule, located on our documents page.

Will I get Okra, Corn and Tomatoes in May?

Do you grow everything?

Yes, everything in our baskets will be raised by us on our farm.

How fresh is your produce?

We harvest our vegetables at the peak of ripeness and quality throughout the week, and market only our best. Much of it will be harvested the day before--or even the day of, delivery!

Which share size do I need?

We recommend the Large share for families of 3-4 people that eat an "average" amount of vegetables. Our small share is for 1-2 people that eat an "average" amount of vegetables. However if your family eats more or less than the "average" family, then you should choose your size accordingly.

Can I split a share with somebody?

Yes, you may split a share with a friend or family member (please do not split a share with an enemy, as complications will crop up eventually). However you are responsible for "lining up a partner", designating a "pick-up person", and for splitting the share AFTER you pick it up.

What happens if I cannot pick up my share on the specified date and time?

If you cannot make it to the pickup location on time or are out of town, you may designate a friend or family member to pick it up for you (or themselves). Any shares that are not picked up on time will be given away. No reimbursement will be issued for missed shares, so please make sure to line somebody up to get it!

What do I do when I pick up my share?

When you pick up your share, you will need to bring bags to transfer your produce into (we will have bags handy if you forget). Then tell farm staff your name and share size, and we will help you transfer your produce from the box, into bags and check your name off of the week's checklist.

Can we visit the farm?

Yes! Shareholders are invited to come out--just call to make sure that we're here! Also, twice a year we have a "Meet our Farm Day". Once in the Spring and once in the Fall, these days will have a potluck style picnic with members bringing one of their favorite dishes (and recipe) to share! There will be farm tours, and fun activities for kids and adults--we hope you will come!
